Hyde Park’s approximate boundaries include the Hillsborough Bay to the east, Kennedy Boulevard to the north, Bayshore Boulevard to the east and south and Armenia Avenue to the west. It’s located adjacent to downtown and the University of Tampa. Proceeds will benefit the preservation and beautification efforts of Hyde Park Preservation, Inc. Tickets are available for $30 in advance or $35 at the event.

Our neighborhood boundaries are Rome Avenue, Swann Avenue, and Bayshore Boulevard. The 2022 Historic Hyde Park Homes Tour will be held on Sunday, November 13th from 11 am to 5 pm. This annual event draws visitors from all over Central Texas to learn about the history of the neighborhood and tour some of the homes that make Hyde Park unique. Tucked within the city limits of Tampa is Hyde Park, a historic neighborhood that evokes the feeling of old Florida with its historic homes and bungalows. The first houses here were built in the 1880s and the area expanded rapidly.

The HHPNA is a civic association rather than a homeowners association. We do not enforce deed restrictions, which to a large degree are absent from property originally developed between the late 1880s and the 1930s. The neighborhood is part of, and supports, the City of Tampa’s Hyde Park Historic District. Exterior rehabilitation, additions and new construction are subject to compliance with the Hyde Park Design Guidelines and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings.

The inspiration for this home can be found in homes built in the Alps and Orient. The design of this home is noted for its simplicity and harmony. Numerous windows, exposed beams and rafters, and wide eaves are some of the architectural features. Built-in furnishings such as bookcases and shelves can also be found in a Craftsman home. The background inspiration for this design stems from mid-class philosophies, supported by a democratic style of living. Outdoor porches and suburban living are also notable inspirations.

Bronze trail markers located on the sidewalk mark every mile and half mile along your way. Attendees stroll around Hyde Park and enjoy one of Tampa’s original neighborhoods, where renovated and restored homes date back to the early 1900’s. The Home Tour is the major fundraiser for our neighborhood and has helped to fund many major preservation, beautification, and maintenance projects in our community. Hillsborough County also offers a variety of magnet school options. Magnet schools each have a curriculum focus, such as engineering, performing arts and International Baccalaureate, just to name a few.
Hyde Park offers a plethora of dining options to satisfy a variety of food and drink cravings. From family gatherings to intimate date nights, a fun dining experience is within walking distance. Established in 1925, Goodie Goodie is one of Tampa’s oldest restaurants serving traditional burgers and other options. For the gourmet lover and movie buff, Cinebistro offers a complete entertainment package.
Several distinctive and beautiful gardens in the iconic Hyde Park neighborhood will be available to explore for guests, with sips, snacks, music, gardening demonstrations, and other surprises along the way. You'll find an interesting blend of the old and new as you tour six of South Tampa’s original homes built between 1913 and 1924 during the from 1 p.m. If this is your first visit, take your time and look around. Wondering why Swann and Rome Avenues are wider than their narrower neighboring streets? The street car line used to run down these two thoroughfares. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will be allocated to various HHPNA neighborhood causes, including the enhancement of our cultural assets and architectural treasures. Our signature project will be the restoration of the original "school house" doors of the Old Hyde Park Art Center. Advance ticket holders will need to exchange their tickets or vouchers for a Tour-ID wrist band, that all walkers will need to enter the homes, at the Bern¹s Steak House parking lot location the day of the tour. There, you will also receive a booklet with information about the homes and map for the walking tour.
For a more beachy, casual dining experience, drop in for a quick bite at Bartaco. This resort-style atmosphere offers unique combinations of flavors in bite-sized tacos. This upscale retailer not only has a variety of cooking and dining supplies, but an array of classes and workshops for the inner chef. The period of popularity for the Mediterranean Revival style was in the 1920’s-1930’s. The countries of inspiration were Spain, Italy, and France. These homes can be identified by their red tiled roofs and decorative scuppers .

The background and inspiration for these homes stems from the Federal and Greek Revivals and when most of the foundational buildings in the United States were built. Thomas Jefferson was a respected architect at this time and he established the link between the foundation of republican government and the past governmental structure of Rome. The columns and triangular pediment can be found in his home, Monticello.

The Gardens & Grounds of Old Hyde Park Tour continues a long series of successful home and kitchen tours that have invited the community into one of Tampa’s most charming and historic neighborhoods over the years. Tour-goers can stroll the tree covered streets past beautiful homes, just off of Bayshore Boulevard and experience some of the community’s most scenic and luxurious gardens. The annual Old Hyde Park Home Tour provides visitors just that opportunity from 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $20 advance; $25 at the start of the route, the corner of Morrison and Oregon avenues. Tour-goers will see modern additions such as outdoor kitchens, man caves and garages turned into guest houses.
Patty and Jonathan Pedersen’s circa-1913 residence at 1501 Bayshore Blvd. boasts an unusual feature for south Tampa, a 2,500-square foot air-conditioned basement. The house is one of six open to visitors on the Old Hyde Park Home Tour on Dec. 4.
